Watermead Challenge 2010 was our first sponsored charity run and walk at Watermead Country Park near Syston. Runners and walkers of all abilities were  invited to join this community event. 180 entrants took part on the evening of Wednesday 14th  July. After a torrential downpour in the afternoon the clouds parted and the race conditions over five and three miles on flat, tarmac surfaced tracks were perfect.

Procceds went to the Richard Engelgardt Trust Fund, St John Ambulance and local to Syston and Birstall youth groups and clubs. Richard is now wheelchair bound following an injury sustained playing for Birstall Rugby Club at the start of the 2009/10 season.

The second Watermead Challenge took place on Wednesday 13th July 2011. There were 190 entrants in total for the three mile and five mile runs (no walk). Profits this time went to  the Leicestershire branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

The 2012 Watermead Challenge was on Wednesday 11th July at 7pm in aid of "Hope Against Cancer", Leicestershire and Rutland's own cancer research charity. We were lucky that during a very wet summer the weather held out for us and 220 runners entered the event.

The 2013 Watermead Challenge on 3rd July attracted 207 runners and raised funds for the InterCare charity of Syston.

The 2014 Watermead Challenge on 8th July attracted a record 310 runners and raised funds for the Textellis charity of Syston.

The 2015 Challenge attracted 350 entries and raised  2500 for the local Birstall BAGS cancer charity. Over 400 entered in 2016 when we supported Rothley's Alex's Wish charity.
