The Rotary Club of the Wreake Valley began collecting for RNLI through John Squire the second president of our club.
Whilst working on a flint barn in Sheringham John became friendly with Brian Pegg, then the engineer on the Sheringham lifeboat. As a result he joined the committee of the Leicester Branch to help them raise funds.
For over twenty years our members have collected on RNLI Flag Days in such diverse locations as Syston town centre and outside the Leicester City and Tigers grounds. John estimates that in total we have collected over £10,000 for the Leicester Branch of this worthy cause.
