Watermead Litter Pick
During winter 2012/13 flooding brought huge amounts of litter into Watermead Country Park and the two park wardens were literally knee deep in refuse.
Wreake Valley Rotary Club president Nigel Coleman read of their plight and on Saturday 23rd February 2013 he organised a giant "litter pick". Twenty one Rotarians and other locals such as regular park users volunteered and during two and a half hours collected fifty nine bin bags of refuse plus a suitcase and a TV!
We realise that our efforts only touch the tip of the "iceberg" and so are planning on arranging follow up events of this type. The park is on our doorstep and is the venue of our annual Watermead Challenge charity run so we are particularly keen to see it looking at its best.
